The Queen 12″ Therapeutic Mattress consists of two layers: a 5″ layer of memory foam and a 7″ layer of polyurethane base foam. The memory foam density is 5 pounds, and it’s covered with a 4-way zipper cover. The viscoelastic element means that it tends to be more firm in cooler conditions, and softer in warmer conditions. Being sensitive to temperature is why memory foam conforms to a person’s body, providing comfort and support. It also features dual air flow and a 20 year warranty, with a 90 day in-home guarantee. The Good
Manufactured in U.S. A reviewer noted that they contacted Dynasty Mattress (seller), and they said it was made in the United States. On the flip side, a reviewer claimed that it’s made in China. I would ultimately defer to the seller. I did read that Dynasty mattress sells mattresses made in both the U.S and China.
5 pound density. This is considered to be high density foam. Visco foam with a density in the 4-6 pound range is ideal. Density refers to how much a cubic foot of memory foam weighs. Typically, a higher density means that it has the quality feel that you just don’t get with a lower density. It tends to be more comfortable and durable. A high density is particularly beneficial for heavier individuals who require more support.
Durability. A rule of thumb is that the higher the density, the more durable it’s likely to be. This means that it will maintain its comfort and support longer. Memory foam mattresses in general are said to be more durable than innerspring ones overall.
Short-term chemical odor. While high density mattresses are more prone to a sustained odor, the consensus among customers is that it’s not a problem. Some are always affected more than others based on sensitivity. You will always read reviews on a given mattress that say it hasn’t gone away after a month. But about 80-90% say that it’s either short lived or they don’t really notice it at all.
Suited for pain relief. High density is best for those who suffer from pain in the hips, back, or shoulders. The reason is because it conforms more to the body and provides great support, which means relief from pressure points.

Price. The fact that it’s priced at $499 is quite a bargain for this density. I have to admit however that I am skeptical of a high density mattress being priced lower. With that said, I have very little evidence that says that it’s not a quality mattress.
Positive customer reviews. You always have to take customer reviews with a grain of salt, primarily because of the wide range of opinions. However, there are 138 reviews on Amazon.com for this mattress. 87% gave it a rating of 4 or 5 stars. Only 8% gave it a rating of less than 3 stars. The amount of positive reviews is a good indicator of overall quality.
Warranty. A 20 year warranty with a 90-day in home guarantee is a pretty good deal.
The Bad
Less is more. While a high density certainly has its benefits, numerous customers have said they prefer a medium density because it’s softer. Some say that the high density feels stiff and difficult to move around on. Typically, light weight individuals would probably benefit more from a 3-4 pound density instead.
One of the other downsides with high density foam is that it can feel like sleeping on quicksand, because it has often more resistance then lesser densities.
Brand. According to Amazon, Sleep Shop is the manufacturer, yet it’s sold by Dynasty Mattress. I don’t know about you, but it’s never good to have two different names associated with a product. Does the warranty come from Sleep Shop or Dynasty? If someone understands this arrangement, please comment below.
Verdict
There is a lot to like about the Queen 12″ Therapeutic Memory Foam Mattress. The points of emphasis are the 5 pound density and the relatively low price. You don’t have to invest thousands as you would with a Tempur Pedic. Based on the number of positive reviews and features, this mattress appears to have good quality. It may not be for everyone, so be sure that the density suits your body type. With all things being equal, this is a mattress that most people will be satisfied with.
